Lake Matheson is one of New Zealand's most scenic icons.  Situated on the West Coast of the South Island, in the heart of Glacier Country and Westland National Park, the Lake Matheson walk is a must do attraction for all visitors to Fox Glacier & Franz Josef Glacier. 'Picture Perfect' reflections of New Zealand's highest peaks Mt Cook & Mt Tasman can be captured in the dark waters of this ancient lake formed by the retreat of the Fox Glacier.  A photographer's paradise!

 

 



The walkway winds through giant rainforest with abundant bird life and endless photo opportunities.
 

 The starting point has plenty of parking for everyone. Award winning restaurant Matheson Café is to one side of the entrance. We have a fantastic reputation for all our gourmet delights and the range of menus. On the other side of the entrance is ReflectioNZ. A unique and classy New Zealand themed gift shop and gallery.

Situated 5 mins drive From Fox Glacier and 25 mins from Franz Josef Glacier and on the way to peak view point, which has the best glacier views, and Gillespies Beach. - It's too close to be missed.
