Right by the entrance to the famous Lake Matheson walkway, the café enjoys pristine views of New Zealand’s highest peaks, Aoraki / Mt Cook and Mt Tasman. Our gallery and gift store showcases carefully selected contemporary merchandise with a New Zealand flavour–NZ themed jewellery, designer merino garments, greenstone & souvenirs, New Zealand artwork & photos.
Lake Matheson Directions
Turn onto Cook Flat Road when passing through the middle of the Fox Glacier Weheka township (this is well signposted). Then travel 5km along this road, and then turn right onto Lake Matheson Road. Drive to the end of the road - you can't miss us.
Lake Matheson Swimming
You can swim in Lake Matheson, but it is quite difficult. The lake's edge is quite wild and has very little access to the water's edge. You can swim at the view points but will risk the wrath of other visitors who will be wanting to get a photo with no ripples in the water.
